Five basic types of sentences (according to verb types):
1. S + V ( Subject + Complete Intransitive Verb )
Fishes swim.

( Subject + Incomplete Intransitive Verb + Subject
Complement )
Writing is a pleasure.

3. S + V + O ( Subject + Complete Transitive Verb + Object )
John collects coins.

He reads English novels.

+ OC ( Subject + Incomplete Transitive Verb + Object
+ Object Complement )
Peter thinks that idea a good idea.

The teacher assigned the student the homework.

+ DO ( Subject + Dative Verb + Indirect Object +
Direct Object )

Additional Remarks :
1. Complete Intransitive Verbs do not need an object and the complement.
2. Incomplete
Intransitive Verbs do
not need an object, but
need a subject complement.
3. Complete Transitive Verbs only need the object.
4. Incomplete Transitive Verbs need an object and an object complement.
5. Dative Verbs need two objects.
