Lesson Plan 4.
TITLE : The Vowel Slide
SUBMITTED BY : Janice Harrison
SUBJECT AREA CONTENT : Language Arts
GRADE LEVEL : K-1
OBJECTIVES :
Students will learn that every word must have a vowel.
Students will also learn how to blend three letters into a word.
PROCEDURES:
Ask the students to name the vowel letters. (a,e,i,o,u) Ask students if they have ever felt afraid to go down a sliding board. Tell them that all the vowels are afraid to go down the slide alone. Well, along come two friends. (Pick two consonants that you have studied.) For example, c and t come along and decide to help a go down the slide. C tells a that they will go up the slide together. T waits at the bottom of the slide to catch them. As c and a go up the slide they say their sound /ca/ /ca/ /ca/ as they go up each step on the slide. Draw out the sound as they slide down and add the t sound as t catches them. Someone is sure to yell out "CAT!!!" Pick new letters and repeat the story.
MATERIALS :
Draw a large slide on the chalkboard.
Also needed, alphabet cards, large enough for the group to see easily.
